International Academic Mobility / Exhibition Project

Remix was an exhibition that grew out of the Lviv National Academy of Arts’ long-running international academic mobility programme.

The programme began to take shape in 2006, when the Academy started building a network of contacts with European art institutions. Early partnerships gradually developed into joint exhibitions, plein-air workshops, and artistic projects, and later into two-way student exchanges. The Academy’s first partners were art institutions in Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Finland, and Armenia.

A new stage began in 2015 with the expansion of mobility through Erasmus+. Faculty members and postgraduate students gradually joined the student exchanges, and international mobility became part of a broader academic and creative exchange between partner institutions.

Presented at the LNAA Gallery in 2017, Remix brought together works made by Academy students while studying at partner institutions abroad. The exhibition documented what they had experienced, while also carrying that experience forward visually. Different art schools, teaching methods, cultural settings, and personal impressions returned to Lviv transformed through the young artists’ own creative practices.

In this sense, Remix marked a new beginning. Mobility meant more than an opportunity to study abroad: it helped create an open artistic environment in which encountering another school could become an impetus for individual growth.

Many of the participants went on to develop professional careers and now work in contemporary art and design. Remix captured a moment of transition, as students began to emerge as a new generation of artists.
