Presence 1.02 belongs to the early works of the series and introduces one of its key motifs — the emergence, within a familiar painterly environment, of a form whose nature cannot be clearly defined.
The warm red-ochre field retains traces of hand movement, layering, and the shifting texture of pastel. It is perceived as a living substance, charged with an inner sense of movement. Yet the work itself departs from the traditional rectangular format: its contour becomes distorted, transforming into an unstable geometric silhouette.
A black vertical structure passes through this space. It offers no explanation of itself and does not belong to the visual logic of its surroundings. Its sharp flatness and almost absolute darkness contrast with the vibrating texture of colour. It may be perceived as a rupture, a shadow, a sign, or a fragment of an unknown structure that has only partially emerged into visible space.
It is precisely this ambiguity that becomes essential. Presence does not assume a specific image — we only sense that something different has appeared within the familiar environment.
This early work already establishes a principle that would later develop throughout the series: the invisible is not represented directly. Instead, it reveals itself through disruptions of structure, shifts in rhythm, the appearance of a sign, or traces of an unknown force at work.
Presence 1.02 captures a moment of encounter with the unknown — a state in which its nature cannot yet be determined, yet its very presence has already begun to transform the space.
